Victorian Double Snake Ring with Ruby and Sapphire

A beautiful and substantial example of the classic double snake ring popular in Victorian England. The snake motif was popularized in the late 1800s by Queen Victoria, who was famously proposed to by Prince Albert with a snake ring. The snake represents eternal love and wisdom, a symbol that has existed since ancient civilizations but reinterpreted and popularized again in the 19th century. This ring features two beautiful snakes that wrap together dynamically-- one of the most natural movement and prettiest snake faces I've seen. It is crafted in buttery, 18k yellow gold and has substantial weight that feels super comfortable on the finger. Condition

In good antique condition. One of the four diamond eyes is a replacement with a small round brilliant diamond at some point in history, as opposed to the rose cut of the originals. The larger blue sapphire stone has a visible chip. These conditions are typical of rings that have been worn over the last 150 years. Please refer to the photos for both of these conditions (clearest in the second-to-last photo). The stones are secure and no other significant wear is on the ring -- it remains a well-structured ring. A beautiful patina has been built up on the ring. Clearly a ring well-loved by its previous owners. Please note that this is a pre-owned ring and is therefore not in mint condition. Sold as-is.
