Georgian Rose Cut Diamond Half Hoop Five-stone Ring

A fantastic Georgian era 5 stone rose cut diamond ring made in France c.1800. It is getting increasingly more difficult to find these rings especially in such good condition.

Rose cut diamonds were introduced in the early 17th century and cut in a way to sparkle and dance in candlelight. This ring truly packs a sparkle, especially with its silvery foil underneath that is in excellent condition (although it was so very difficult to capture the brilliance on video!). It is a also an unusual design with the diamonds oriented in the east-west direction that together form a beautiful graduated half-hoop. The collet settings are beautifully made in silver with an even oxidation developed overtime.

A very wearable US size 5 3/4, sizing not recommended due to age of piece and construction but please consult your preferred jeweller.

Rehallmarked in the 20th century with eagle's head hallmark, which represents 18k gold.
Acid test to be closer to 14-15k gold.

The largest central diamond has dimension of 3mm x 6.5mm (measuring the exposed portion of the diamond that is not covered by the collet setting)

Care

Due to the closed-up and foiled nature of this piece, do not let the ring come into contact with water which will oxidize the foil. For this reason, it is not recommended to be an everyday engagement ring, but perfect for special and/or careful wear.

Condition

In excellent antique condition for the age of the piece. All stones are very secure within the silver collet settings and have very little wear given its 200 years of age. One of the smaller stones shows slight darkening of its foil underneath but all other foils remain silvery white and brilliant. Please note that this is an antique pre-owned piece and is therefore not in mint condition. Sold as-is.
