This is the most exquisite antique piece that I've been able to offer. Crafted around 1860, this Etruscan Revival amphora pendant is an exceptional piece of craftsmanship, particular in the skills of filigree and granulation. Each coil and tendril was carefully soldered onto the amphora in symmetrical design. Granulation, where tiny granules of gold is affixed to the surface was a very difficult technique in Etruscan jewelry that was revived in the 19th century. The Italian firm Castellani was particularly well-known for this kind of Revivalist jewelry. This piece is unsigned, but boasts of all the astonishing craftsmanship of a master of this time. The details cannot be missed in this piece, as even the thin chains have tiny granules soldered to them. Intricate. Weighty. Exceptional.

Acid test to be around 14-15k gold. Given the English origin of the piece, it is most likely 15k gold.

Condition
In very good antique condition commensurate with age. The filigree and granulation work has been very well preserved and shows very little wear. The back looks smoothed by skin contact over the century and reveals a slightly rosier gold color underneath, indicating potentially the surface had been bloomed. There is a light dent at the center of the amphora's back side. The round bail was a later historic addition, as the shield-shape link was the original bail to the piece and hook must have been damaged in the past. This can be restored by a skilled jeweler to its original form, but due to the delicate nature of granulation and cannatille, it may be best to leave as is. There also appears to be a tiny hole at the base of the piece on the back but that appears to be intentional. Please note this is an antique pre-owned piece and is therefore not in mint condition.
