This pendant is a marriage between a Greek amphoriskos and the traditional Japanese art of repairing pottery using gold known as kintsugi. It is a visual expression not just of the fragility of ceramics but the beauty of mending what was once broken. It is a vision and hope for new life and renewal.

I hand carved the pendant out of wax and the piece is one-of-a-kind. The pendant is casted through the lost-wax method in 100% recycled gold. I designed each pendant as a panel with concave beveled corners and relief design– an homage to the decorative panels in antique Chinese furniture as well as Renaissance basso-relievo sculptures.

Specifications

100% recycled 14k yellow gold.

Pendant measures 12mm x 15mm not including bail.

In Jars of Clay

I have always been fascinated by the art of ceramics, and in awe of the artists who flourish in the medium. There is a kaleidoscope of beautiful opposites in pottery: fragility and endurance, utility and ornamentation, moldability and permanence, raw earth and the imprinted human hand. This collection is a love letter to an art form as old as humanity itself, and the transformation that the humble "jar" experiences through different eras. These four pieces were an opportunity for me to experiment with expressions of form-finding as well as shallow carving as a representation of ceramic patterns — all at a miniature scale.
